Some of the most obvious ideas
are the ones you never think of …
until you see them.
The impact is bold. The style is distinct. Simply by incorporating our patented 45FortyOne™ system, log and timber home manufacturers and handcrafters can achieve greater visual impact - with no need for special hardware or additional materials.
By orientating your posts to accentuate the widest face of the wood, you can add eye-catching sophistication to your designs. The simplicity and strong visual lines of the 45FortyOne™ provide a balance of strength and style that will gracefully stand the test of time.
45FortyOne™ - a classic in its infancy. We're sure you'll see the difference.
45FortyOne™ Features and Benefits:
- Larger Cross-Section: Posts with side wall faces placed at a 45-degree angle to the walls of a structure swell beyond their dimensions, providing the appearance of larger cross-sectional posts.
- Conserves Wood: Posts diagonally oriented visually increase in width by 41 percent. For example, a 6x6 post will present a width of nearly 8 ½ inches. Achieving more with less, the system saves you the cost and materials of larger cuts of wood.
- Easy Access to Apply Protective Coatings: Placing posts at a 45-degree angle to adjacent wall surfaces allows for easy access to all 4 vertical surfaces when applying protective coatings.
- Eliminates Caulk and Rot: Effectively eliminates the need for exterior caulk and all preconditions for post rot that can be attributed to any restrictive area between neighbouring surfaces.
- Stronger when Cutting Arcs: Diagonally oriented posts make for much stronger support when cutting arcs. The volume of wood removed is less in a 45-degree post than if the same arc radius is cut into a conventional 90-degree post face.
- Railings can Float Vertically: Posts diagonally oriented can have railings installed to interconnect with the corner. The corner locks the rails horizontally without any need for fasteners. As a result, the rails can float vertically, allowing easy structural adjustments when compensating for settlement.
Construction Note: If incorporating the BearPaw™ with 45FortyOne™ next to a wall surface, a minimum distance must be established between the finished wall surface and the post corner for assembling and/or disassembling the BearPaw™.
Minimum Distance (ZBPS 5.5) = 1¾ inch.
